If you can choose when to come to La Maddalena, September is probably the month we recommend most. It is not just about lower prices: it is the time when you can really experience the island, without the overcrowding of July and August.

The sea is still warm

The Mediterranean holds its warmth until well into October: in September the water is still perfect for swimming, often warmer than it was in June, but with less scorching air.

Fewer crowds, more island

The archipelago's most famous beaches, the ones where in August you have to arrive at dawn to find a spot, become enjoyable again in September. We have gathered the quietest in our guide to less crowded beaches in La Maddalena.

The days are still long

In early September there is still plenty of daylight: there is time for a day on a boat, a stroll through the villages and a sunset aperitif without rushing.

A practical tip

September is also the month when, by booking a little in advance, it is easier to find availability in holiday homes with the right features (close to the harbour, parking, an equipped kitchen), which in August are booked up well ahead.

Come and stay with us at Il Maestrale

Our apartment, about 1.5 km from the centre of La Maddalena, with private parking and handy for driving to the island's beaches, is designed for those who want to enjoy the island at a relaxed pace: September, with its calmer days, is probably the best time of year to do it. Yes. The Mediterranean holds the heat built up over the summer: in September the water stays pleasant for swimming, often until the middle of the month and beyond.

Yes. Even though demand is lower than in August, the accommodation with the best features (close to the harbour, parking) still books up some time in advance.

Boat trips with less boat traffic, excursions on Caprera in milder temperatures, and dinners in the old town without the queues of high season.
